Ben Ogg’s nuanced insights into the multiple facets of the complex and highly regulated creditor’s rights industry allow him to collaborate with the firm's clients to achieve their goals, all while anticipating and addressing potential risks.
As General Counsel for MDK, Ben Ogg oversees the firm’s attorneys and compliance function, working across legal, operational, and business teams to address complex challenges and strengthen the delivery of legal services. He brings a practical, collaborative perspective to his role, drawing on his extensive history with the firm and deep understanding of the industries MDK serves.
Since joining MDK in 2011, Ben has served in a wide range of roles. He began at the firm as a practicing attorney and went on to lead compliance, help guide MDK’s transition to its Agile operating model, and most recently serve as Executive Director of Compliance and Legal. This breadth gives Ben a unique perspective on how legal strategy, compliance, operations, and client needs intersect.
Ben’s leadership is grounded in curiosity and a willingness to dig into the details. “I want to understand how tasks are performed; the roadblocks, nuances, and impediments; and discuss what can be done to lead to better results and higher quality legal services,” he says. This mindset allows Ben to pair legal oversight with an understanding of the day-to-day work involved in serving MDK’s clients.
Before joining MDK, Ben began his career in business litigation, where he saw how early legal guidance can help clients avoid disputes, manage risk, and prevent unnecessary costs. He has carried that perspective into his work at MDK, applying his litigation background and legal judgment to assess risk and help the firm navigate complex issues.
Coaching and collaboration have also been consistent themes in Ben’s work. Having benefited from mentorship himself, he values opportunities to develop others, listen to different perspectives, and recognize the strengths people bring to a team. His leadership style emphasizes trust, self-awareness, and openness to new ideas, and he is known throughout MDK for being approachable and willing to help.
Ben is a member of the Ohio State Bar Association and Columbus Bar Association and has been recognized by Ohio Super Lawyers as a Rising Star.
Outside of work, Ben enjoys cooking, winemaking, spending time with his bulldog, and sharing those interests with friends and family.
