Bankruptcy law is more than a profession for Molly Simons, Senior Attorney at MDK: it’s part of her legacy. The daughter of two accomplished attorneys, Molly was introduced to the field early by her father, a Chapter 7 trustee who served for over five decades. “He taught me the basics and then sent me out into the world to fend for myself,” she shares with a laugh. That foundation shaped her thoughtful, client-focused approach to law.
Molly focuses on bankruptcy matters in Ohio and Kentucky, including mortgage and vehicle claims. She brings a combination of technical knowledge and practical insight, having spent years on both the debtor and creditor sides. Her time drafting and defending proofs of claim taught her how to navigate the full life cycle of a case and tailor communication to her audience. “I adjust how I explain legal issues depending on who I’m talking to. Sometimes that means breaking things down in plain language, and other times it requires a more technical approach. The key is making sure the message is understood,” she says.
With a clear focus on resolution, Molly believes that both sides of a bankruptcy matter are working toward the same goal of restoring stability. “The goal is to resolve matters amicably. No one benefits from wasted time or unnecessary conflict, especially when both parties ultimately want the same thing: to get the debtor back on track,” she explains. Molly advocates with precision and approaches each matter with diligence, empathy, and respect for the nuance between judges and jurisdictions.
After ten years of working as a Debtor's counsel, Molly changed course and began working for creditors in 2018. Now at MDK, she brings with her extensive experience across sixteen federal courts. She describes MDK as a firm as structured, efficient, and grounded in integrity, a place where she feels aligned with the people and the mission. Drawn to the firm’s strong reputation and collaborative culture, she saw MDK as a natural next step, a place where she could continue to grow while contributing her skills to a team that shares her commitment to thoughtful, client-centered work.
Molly earned her J.D. from Cleveland State University College of Law and graduated cum laude from Kent State University, where she studied hospitality and restaurant management. A proud Kent State Flash and longtime Cincinnati native, Molly originally dreamed of becoming a chef and still enjoys cooking in her free time. Her path to law may have started in a different kind of kitchen—the one in her childhood home—but today she brings the same care, adaptability, and attention to detail to every interaction.
