Michael Carleton serves as Practice Group Director for MDK’s Timeshare and Florida Residential practices, where he leads a team of attorneys dedicated to delivering practical, client-focused solutions in default litigation. In this role, Michael cultivates attorney growth, enhances practice efficiency, and drives strategic initiatives that help clients recover defaulted assets. Based in Columbus, Ohio, he remains a key resource across MDK’s practice areas, lending his expertise and leadership to complex matters and firmwide initiatives.

A trusted advocate for timeshare developers, associations, and trustees, Michael leads judicial and non-judicial foreclosures with a focus on practical solutions and client success. He oversees all aspects of litigation and settlement negotiations, drawing on his strengths in problem solving, collaboration, and case strategy to advance client objectives and resolve disputes efficiently. Since joining MDK in 2003 and returning in 2011, Michael has thrived on helping parties reach solutions that move matters forward. “What I enjoy most,” he shares, “is helping our clients and their stakeholders reach resolutions that align with their shared goals but require legal insight to achieve.”

As Practice Group Director, Michael partners closely with Operations, Compliance, and fellow practice leaders to ensure that MDK’s legal services are delivered with consistency and excellence. He actively monitors industry trends, champions process improvements, and helps shape the firm’s strategic growth in the timeshare and Florida residential markets. Known for his steady leadership and approachable style, he fosters a culture of learning, teamwork, and continuous improvement within his team. “I strive to be available to assist, offer help, and take appropriate steps when necessary,” Michael says of his leadership approach.

Beyond his leadership responsibilities, Michael is deeply engaged in the legal profession and his community. He holds memberships in the Ohio State Bar Association, Columbus Bar Association, and various state bar associations. He authored the Lexis Nexis resource “Commercial and Residential Mortgage Foreclosure in Ohio” and volunteers with the Columbus Bar Association Professional Ethics Committee. He also shares his knowledge by speaking at conferences and webinars.
